Maxime Cressy prevented an all-British quarter-final at the ATP Eastbourne event on Wednesday with his 7-6(2), 6-4 defeat of Dan Evans.
The French-born American will next face national No. 1 Cam Norrie, who put out Brandon Nakashima of the US 6-4, 6-2.
The top-seeded winner, ranked 12th in the world, saved all four break points he faced in his second-round win.
“I was a little bit nervous going out there, especially as I hadn’t won a match on the grass this year,” Norrie said.
“I was looking for that first win. Eastbourne is really special for me. I got my first-ever ATP win on this very court here (2017 first round).”
Holder Alex de Minaur posted a 7-6(3), 6-2 win into the last eight at the last of the pre-Wimbledon warmup, defeating Lorenzo Sonego in a re-run of the final here a year ago.
