Veronika Kudermetova sprang a 7-5, 6-1 surprise on world No. 4 Jessica Pegula to win the WTA Tokyo title on Sunday.

The eighth seed needed just under 90 minutes to defeat the second seed who won the Montreal title in August;

Kudermetova claimed the second trophy of her career after Charleston two years ago; victory in Japan ended a four-final loss streak since her Charleston success.

The victory cemented the end of a loss streak, with the player having won only three matches in her last six events prior to Tokyo.
