Former world No.1 Andy Murray believes Cameron Norrie’s win at Indian Wells was a “phenomenal achievement” and told media in Antwerp yesterday Norrie’s consistency throughout the year was more impressive.
Norrie on Sunday became the first Brit to win the ATP Masters 1000 event when he came from behind to beat Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili 3-6 6-4 6-1.
The win also pushed Norrie into the ATP top 20 rankings.
“I’d be lying if I said that I called that, to be honest,” Murray, said of Norrie’s win.
“However, I have spent a decent amount of time around him and practised with him quite a lot and he works extremely hard… It was obviously a phenomenal achievement last night, but I think the season that he’s having is maybe more impressive than that one week.”
Norrie is also in the race to make the season-ending ATP Finals in Turin, which the top eight men will contest from November 14-21.
