New mansion solves Murray’s airport commute problem

Andy Murray has solved his airport commute problem the easy way – by moving to a new mansion more convenient to both Heathrow and Gatwick..

The three-time Grand Slam champion has sold up his sprawling family compound in Oxshott and will transfer his brood to the new digs in Leatherhead, roughly five kilometers closer to both London airports.

The 35-year-old told Surrey Today of his grand scheme:

“At one point, I was travelling 40 weeks a year to tournaments so being closer to both Heathrow and Gatwick helped cut down on a little bit of my travel time.

“It’s also easy to get to Wimbledon and the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton from here, where I train.”

A buyer finally closed on the Scot’s five-bedroom property, freeing up Murray to move the family to their residence in nearby Leatherhead which he bought six years ago.

But the mansion was far from satisfactory, with Murray originally ordering an extension to be built but later scrapping the entire structure to re-start the build from scratch.

The new home features the usual accoutrements of a swimming pool, cinema room, sauna, and a gym; no tennis court was mentioned.
