Murray trims Atlanta from packed pre-Open schedule

The three-time Grand Slam champion who reached the quarter-finals this month after Wimbledon at Newport, will leave the 250 event scratching for a prestige international drawcard amid a sea of pedestrian Americans.

British media report that the 35=year-old is fearful of over-playing prior to the start of the season’s final Grand Slam on August 29.

He will still recall the abdominal injury which sank his chances in the June grass final at Stuttgart against Italian Matteo Berrettini.

Murray is now due to compete at the Washington 500 tournament in the steamy US capital. That should be followed by the Masters 1000 pair of Montreal and Cincinnati next month, ending a week before the Grand Slam start in New York.
