An angry Andy Murray smashed a racquet on Monday after losing for the sixth time to Alex de Minaur, exiting the Paris Masters for a third straight year in the first round.
The 36-year-old Scot who won the indoor title seven years ago sank to 0-6 in the series after de Minaur came from 2-5 down in the final set.
Those heroics – he also saved a match point – duplicated a similar performance in a previous win just three weeks ago in Beijing.
Murray has not won a match here since beating John Isner for the 2016 trophy.
The former No. 1 ends his season on a sad note after exiting last week in the Basel second round and managing only a 2-5 record since an early US Open loss to Grigor Dimitrov.
The 13th-ranked de Minaur swept the last five games of the match and advanced to the second round as a Murray return hit the top of the net and bounced dead onto the Scot’s side of the court.
De Minaur has now defeated the three-time Grand Slam winner four times in 2023.
Murray calls a halt to the season standing 16-17.
