More Coronavirus cases including the newest highly contagious UK strain, also known as the “Kent Virus” have been linked to the Australian Open.
The Victorian government confirmed one of the new cases was a man in his 20’s, not a player.
Three more non-players, two men in their 30s and one in his 50s – have meanwhile been confirmed to have contracted the highly contagious UK strain of the virus.
All those affected arrived in Melbourne on a dedicated Australian Open charter flight on 15 January and returned their first positive tests on 15, 17 and 18 January,” a Government health spokesperson stated.
All three have been in “hard lockdown” since they landed at Tullamarine Airport.
There are now 10 active cases directly linked to the Open and 970 people out of a total of 1200 people connected with the tournament are in quarantine.
The Victorian government also announced that there are no new cases reported amongst the local population.
