Holder Daniil Mevedev kept his hopes of finally repeating an ATP title alive on Tuesday, defeating German Dominik Koepfer 7-6(5), 6-0 in the fourth round.

The third seed who has yet to back up a trophy after winning 20 of them, charged back from 0-4 down in the opening set tiebreaker and rolled through the second to advance.

“He played very good and was probably was close to winning it because of the 4/0 in the tie-break,” the seed said. .

“When you lose such a set, especially when the points are tough, it brings your energy down.”

Medvedev said he was perhaps expecting a form dip from  his opponent in the second set – a script that played out perfectly in the 6-0 sweep.

“I knew I had to use that in the beginning of the second set, the level was high today.”

Medvedev converted four of nine break points as he defeated Koepfer for the third time without a loss.and now takes on Nicolas Jarry. after claiming a 350th Tour match win.

“I remember my first win, I was 5-1 up in the second and was shaking, trembling, thinking ‘Oh my god I’m going to win my first ATP match’,” he said.

“Now it’s like, ‘If I win, good for me, I just need to finish it, and we go home’.”

A 20-time tour-level titleist, Medvedev is aiming to win the same tournament twice for the first time in his career.

Jarry defeated Casper Ruud 7-6 (3), 6-3, relying on 39 winners.

“The conditions were so tough. The wind was extreme and Casper also, he’s a grinder. I’m very happy,” the Chilean said.
