Medvedev moves closer to sixth season title

Daniil Medvedev sent over a sixth ace on match point to complete a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 comeback against Ugo Humbert on Monday at the ATP Beijing event.

The world No. 3 behind Novak Djokovjc and Carlos Alcaraz now stands two wins away from his sixth title of the season as he get stuck into the autumn Asian swing.

The second seed needed a recovery after a mid-match swoon, which he completed with confidence to earn the win in just over two hours despite  a patchy serving performance which included nine double-faults.

Medvedev has been on a tear in 2023, reaching the semi-final stage at 10 of 18 tournaments this season; he is seeking an eighth final of the year..

He already owns Asian titles from Tokyo. 2018, and Shanghai a year later before tennis was shutdown in China due to COVID at the start of 2020.

Medvedev is competing for the first time in Beijing.
