Medvedev ace attack fails to subdue De Minaur

Daniil Medvedev sent down 10 aces but was unable to get past inspired Australian Alex De Minaur , who produced a 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 win into the third round of the Paris Masters on Wednesday.

Fourth seed Medvedev, formerly the world No. 1, saved seven of 10 break points and put his winning opponent under even more pressure with 15 cnaces on the Aussie serve.

De Minaur trailed a break in the final set could not stop his opponent from saving a pair of match points in the tight 10th game.

He closed out the upset two games later as he broke Medvedev for the final time on a double-fault at the Bercy arena.

The Aussie had lost all four of his previous meetings with the 4th seed.

De Minaur finally came good after losing 18 times against a Top 5 opponent; he equalled his best showing at the event, matching 2019 and 2020.

He now faces Frances Tiafoe, who defeated Brit Jack Draper 6-3, 7-5.
