Lubi takes post-Federer job with French tennis

Ivan Ljubicic has made the shift from Federer to France, with the former coach of the now-retired Swiss taking up a top player development post with the French federation.

The former ATP No. 3 who helped guide Federer for six years until his retirement in September, was appointed head of Ambition 2024 project, the FFT said on Tuesday.

The Croat, a former world No. 3 and Davis Cup trophy winner in 2005, is charged with strengthening the elite branch of male and female players aged 14 and over with the Paris 2024 Olympics looming in the capital.

He is expected to pass on a “winning culture” to young French hopefuls when he steps into place in mid-January.

Ljubicic won three of his 10 career ATP titles in France, starting with the first of his career in Lyon, 2001.

“Giving our young players this opportunity to get to know and work with the man who coached Roger Federer is an experience that is sure to push them to strive ever higher,” FFT boss Gilles Moretton said.

Added Ljubicic: “France is a fantastic breeding ground for players, with plenty of potential.

“I will use my experience to rise to this new challenge and fully commit to sharing the values that shape true champions.”
