Local stars shine as Adelaide gets underway

Several Australian women are enjoying this week’s Adelaide International already with early wins at Memorial Drive Tennis Centre today.

Maddison Inglis beat world No.85 Christina McHale 4-6 6-2 6-1 to qualify at a WTA tournament for the first time and Storm Sanders secured her place in the main draw with a 6-2 6-3 victory against world No.118 Caty McNally.

Astra Sharma lost to Italy’s Jasmine Paolini 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 and Madison Brengle beat Ellen Perez 6-3, 6-2 in the final qualifying round matches and Wang Qiang, who is coached by Pat Cash, knocked out Queensland teenager Olivia Gadecki, recording a 6-4 6-3 victory.
