London Wimbledon Championships Day 1 27/06/2022 Novak Djokovic wins first round match Roger Parker International Sports Fotos Ltd
Novak Djokovic is tired of Wimbledon’s late-running last day match turning into a night-time session, with the Serb optimistic that a scheduling change might be coming.
“I don’t see a reason why there wouldn’t be an earlier start, to be honest,” the top seed said after hearing chatter of a tweak in timings.
“If you’re scheduled last on the Centre, you’re going to end up a match under the roof, which changes the conditions, the style of play, the way you move on the court.
“It’s more slippery…the lights. It’s really an indoor tournament in most of the cases.”
With Centre Court showpieces not beginning before 1:30 pm, last week’s third night matches have nearly all lasted until the 11 pm neighborhood tennis curfew agreed years ago by the club and nearby neighbors.
“I think most of the players would probably agree that we would all want the start of the match on Centre Court pushed earlier,” Djokvic said.
