Kyrgios injury marathon continues with Washington pullout

Nick Kyrgios further extended months of injury inactivity on Thursday, with the Australian draw card withdrawing from next week’s ATP hardcourt event in Washington.

The 2019 and 2022 champion in the American capital underwent a knee procedure in January after pulling out a day before his opening match at the Australian Open.

His only match this season was a loss in grass last month in Stuttgart.

Kyrgios was joined on the sidelines with the US Open starting on August 28 by Daniil Medvedev.

No reason was given for the absence of ATP No. 3 Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion and a Wimbledon semi-finalist a fortnight ago.
