Kyrgios in doubt with knee injury

Nick Kyrgios’ Australian Open warm-up ended when he was knocked out of the Murray River Open in straight sets by Borna Coric, 6-3, 6-4 today.

Australian Kyrgios rarely troubled Coric and looked ill at ease, carrying a left knee injury throughout the match.

Eventually frustration got the better of him as he completely demolished his racquet after being broken by the Croat in the second set, with the shattered racquet thrown into the empty stands.

“I can’t serve without pain,” he told his trainer. “I can’t land on my leg. I am serving 170[km/h], instead of 220.”

In the other matches Australia’s Jordan Thompson moved into the quarter-finals with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Spain’s Mario Vilella Martinez.
