Kyrgios cops 10k fine for spitting

Nick Kyrgios has been hit with a $10,000 fine for spitting towards a spectator in his first-round match at Wimbledon this week.

Tournament officials issued the fine after Kyrgios admitted he spat towards a spectator and called a line judge a “snitch” during his five-set win over Britain’s Paul Jubb.

Kyrgios pleaded mitigating circumstances, insisting he had asked the chair umpire for an abusive spectator to be ejected.

The Australian has previously been fined $60,000 for bad behaviour at two ATOP tournaments.

Alexander Ritschard was fined $5,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct during a first-round match in qualifying and seven other men have been penalised $3,000 each for either unsportsmanlike conduct or audible obscenity.

Five women have also been fined at this year’s event, the highest $4,000 to Daria Saville in the first round for racket or equipment abuse.
