Kontaveit crashes out in second round surprise

Second seed Anett Kontaveit was knocked out of Wimbledon in less than an hour by an inexperienced German on Wednesday, losing 6-4, 6-0 to Jule Niemeier.

The Estonian seed paid the price for not playing a tune-up event on grass as she fell to a No. 97 playing only the second Grand Slam of her career.

The winner had never faced a Top 10 opponent.Wimbledon remains a black spot for Kontaveit as the only major where she has failed to advance past the third round.
