Andy Murray suffered a first-round defeat at the indoor ATP tournament in Cologne, losing in straight sets to Spain’s Fernando Verdasco 6-4, 6-4.
The former world No.1 is struggling to find his form after hip surgery and admitted he was finding it tough on court.
“It was tough, I had a few chances, but I didn’t serve that well and these courts are quite slow, so it’s important to get break points which I didn’t get,” Murray said in Cologne.
“He played better than me.”
It was only the fourth tournament Murray has played in 2020, but it was his third straight defeat to Verdasco.
Murray will stay in Germany for another ATP event next week.
“I plan to stay and play next week, get some practise in the next few days,” he said.
“It wasn’t that big an improvement (on defeat to Wawrinka), I need to practice, play matches and get better.”
