Injured Zverev still dreams of making the Open

Nearly seven weeks since rolling his ankle in a Roland Garros semi-final and damaging tendons Alexander Zverev is putting his recovery hopes on making it to the US Open.

The world No. 2 German recently posted a video on social media showing him walking without crutches, an encouraging sign.

“I still haven’t given up on the US Open, and, of course, I want to be part of the (September) Davis Cup for myself,” he said.

“That’s a goal because my brother and I are also involved with the organisation to help bring the Davis Cup to Hamburg.”

The 25-year-old who has been out since the first days of June, has maintained positive energy during his long rehab.

“It’s not difficult at all, I’m also looking forward to this work a bit, it’s something completely new.

“It’s clear that I’d rather play the tournament in Hamburg or train on the tennis court, but it’s the way it is now. You have to go through it; everyone has their own way and you have to go through it.

“That’s part of what I have to do now, and maybe next year, I’ll come back even stronger.”
