In-form Saville reaches last eight in Miami

Australian Daria Saville came from a set down to beat Lucia Bronzetti and reach the last eight of the Miami Open on Monday with a 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 victory.

It was Saville’s ninth win in her last 11 tour matches and she will play either Swiss Belinda Bencic or Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the quarter-finals.

Bronzetti, who beat Australian Ajla Tomljanovic earlier, had match point in the third set before Saville fired back to stay in the contest and eventually won out in almost three hours of play.

The Italian won the opening set after Saville had raced into a 3-0 lead, and again at
5-3, but she lost the next four games.

In the second set Saville broke serve in the third game and established a lead she never gave up.

Bronzetti broke to lead 5-3 in the decider but Saville then broke back. After the Italian forced a break-point match-point, Saville’s serve kept her in the match, and from there she held serve and won the tie.
