Simona Halep has wasted no time in launching her comeback to tennis, with the former No. 1 accepting a wild card into the Miami Masters later this month.
The Romanian successfully appealed a harsh disciplinary ban inflicted for four years but this week reduced on appeal to time “served.”
The decision frees the double Grand Slam winner who last competed at the 2022 US Open to charge back onto the Tour.
“Thank you to the tournament for giving me this opportunity,” she posted on social media concerning her entry into Miami, which begins March 19.
“I’m thrilled to let you all know that I will be making my return to the WTA Tour in two weeks at the Miami Open.
Halep’s case boiled down to a supplement contaminated by a banned substance given to her by a coach, it was determined.
