Current WTA No. 66 Camila Giorgi was never given required the COVID-19 vaccine, according to her family doctor Daniela Grillonn who has himself been charged with vaccinating people with fake serums
Despite having no valid vaccination, the Italian competed in WTA events, including the Australian and US Opens while being required to be vaccinated to have entered either country.
Giorgi herself is now reportedly under investigation for allegedly obtaining fake documents to prove vaccination against COVID-19.
The player came under suspicion as part of a wider investigation into the activities of an alleged ‘anti-vax’ doctor practising in Italy.
According to a report from Italian newspaper La Repubblica, “Giorgi has been accused of obtaining a fake vaccination certificate, without getting the vaccine against coronavirus, from a doctor who is against the idea of vaccinations and wilfully provided multiple counterfeit certificates”
The doctor’s client list reads as something of a who’s who of Italian celebrities and public figures, including the singer Madame” reports La Republica
It is being reported that Italian police in Vicenza are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter and have already shared their documents with the Italian Tennis Federation.
No doubt the International Tennis Integrity Agency will now be conducting their own inquiries.
The results of findings in the case could trigger further action taken against the player by immigration authorities in both Australia and the United States.
The fact that a criminal investigation is underway may prevent any disciplinary action against Giorgi for the time being and she is No. 68 on the Ladies singles entry list for next weeks Australian Open.
