2015 Davis Cup winners Great Britain reached the 2023 finals after a stunning last gasp victory over France when doubles pairing Dan Evans and Neil Skupski beat Nicholas Mahut and Edouard Roger-Vaselin after saving four match points.

With the match on the line, Skupski fired down an unreturnable first serve to put Great Britain through to the Malaga finals.

Earlier in the day Dan Evans had won his singles rubber, having lost the first set, and out of sorts Cameron Norrie lost in three sets.

British Captain Leon Smith said “It was bonkers. I don’t know what we’ve all sat through for nine hours”

Team GB will proceed to the knockout phase of the men’s team competition in Malaga, Spain in November.

Britain, Australia, France and Switzerland  had contested  the round-robin event at Manchester’s AO Arena this week and today’s decider was played out in front of a capacity 13,000 partisan crowd.
