Gauff battles back for first round win

Coco Gauff had to battle start in the US Open on Monday evening, losing the first set before raying to beat Magda Linette 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.

The No. 21-seed will meet 2017 champion Sloane Stephens in the second round after Stephens had beaten Madison Keys earlier in the day.

Gauff is congratulated by Linette after her win.

Linette looked on course for a major upset after talking out the first set and then leading 2-0 in the second before Gauff regrouped.

“It almost brings me to tears,” Gauff said, “because I missed playing in front of this crowd so much.”
