Flawless Humbert keeps his finals record perfect

Flawless Frenchman Ugo Humbert made it five-for-five in career ATP Finals on Sunday as he dispatched 2024 Brisbane champion Grigor Dimitrov 6-4, 6-3 to win the Marseille event.

Humbert got the job done in 82 minutes over the Bulgarian veteran.

“I always tell myself that you can’t play in a final, you have to win it,” he said.

“I relaxed as the tournament progressed and I proved it to myself again”

He added:.“Since I arrived on the circuit, it (a fnal) is something that has never scared me. It’s exciting,

“I like to beat the best in the world. Now I play solidly, I know that against them you have to be able to make more exceptional shots.”

Humbert, whose last two titles have come in his native France, will rise to 18th in the rankings; he had lost his previous two matches to Dimitrov and has won his last eight matches indoors.

“I’m very strong mentally in finals,” the winner said after “a great match against Grigor.”

“He’s one of the best players at the moment, so it was not easy.”

He added: “It’s so nice to win at home again, it’s here where everything began, because I reached my first semi-final on Tour (in Marseille, 2019)

“It’s really nice to win Marseille, it’s a good feeling.”
