Federer ponders French Open pullout

Former World No. 1 Andy Murray called Roger Federer’s late night epic at Roland Garros ‘inspirational’ as he overcame Dominik Koepfer, but it may be the end of the road in Paris for the Swiss legend.

“I’m not bothered by the outcome of this match at all … just seeing Federer at 39 off the back of two knee surgeries playing to an empty stadium at 12:30am getting fired up is inspirational to me,” Murray wrote on Twitter.

But the match may have taken its toll on the the 20-times Grand Slam champion, with Federer considering whether to continue at Roland Garros.

Federer will next play big-hitting Italian Matteo Berrettini.

Asked about pushing himself through the tournament, Federer said: “We go through these matches… we analyse them highly and look on what’s next and we’ll do the same tonight and tomorrow.

“Because I need to decide if I keep on playing or not or is it not too much risk at this moment to keep pushing or is this just a perfect way to just take a rest.”
