Swiss Martina Hingis has separated from second husband Harry Leemann, with the former teenaged Grand Slam winner and the Zug doctor the parents of a three-year-old daughter.
Schweizer Illustrierte magazine published a statement from Hingis announcing the decision: “We can no longer save our marriage,” Hingis, 42 next month, said. The pair were married in July, 2018.
“But we can share responsibility for Lia’s upbringing and do everything we can to make sure she’s okay and find the best solution for her,” Hingis added
Hingis told the magazine that the COVID pandemic was partly to blame for the split, adding that her frequent travel for sponsors also may have contributed to the breakdown.
“We evolved separately and now have different goals in life.”
Hingis divorced her first husband, French showjumper Thibault Hutin, in 2013 after three years of marriage.
She was previously linked to former Czech player Radek Stepánek (2006 – 2007), British footballer Sol Campbell (2005 – 2006), Spanish golfer Sergio Garcia (2001 – 2002), and tennis players Ivo Heuberger, Magnus Norman and Julián Alonso.
