Nick Kyrgios will limit any Roland Garros participation to a possible bit of television commentary after reports from Australia that he is suffering with another knee injury.
The controversial former Wimbledon finalist, who has played just six Tour matches (1-5) since 2022, was to have fronted up for doubles at the French Open, where he last competed in singles eight years ago.
But intended partner Jordan Thompson told Aussie media that the partnership is now up in smoke after the latest injury drama.
“Nick was really pumped to play here. He kept messaging me every week, ‘you good to go for dubs at Roland Garros’,” Thompson said.
“I know he was back home in Australia training on clay, but a few days ago, Nick told me that he’s done something to his knee.
“Unfortunately, he just couldn’t be here.”
The ATP No. 40 added: “He was pretty down. He told me he doesn’t know how many more of these injuries he can take, and you’ve just got to feel for him.
“As much as he says (outlandish) things in the media, I think he loves playing tennis and he loves being on court, so it’s disappointing that he can’t be here on the court.”
Kyrgios has spent the last few seasons of mainly downtime engaging in social media flare-ups, with the latest target of the Aussie’s spiteful venom being the world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, whom Kyrgios calls a doper.
Kyrgios has not shown up at a Grand Slam since the US Open in autumn, 2022.
