Novak Djokovic will ration his appearance at the “lesser” events in search of more history, with the Serb revealing he won’t bother to compete next month at the Shanghai Masters.
The 36-year-old whose US Open title barely a week ago sent him to a record 24 grand Slam singles titles, said that he will concentrate on the majors in an effort to further polish his legacy.
That means he won’t be making the trip to Asia as the Shanghai event is staged for the first time since 2019 when Daniil Medvedev lifted the last trophy before the long COVID shutdown in China.
“Over the years, some of the best support I receive anywhere in the world, is in China,” Djokovic said.. Shanghai has always been one of my favourite tournaments in the season”
The four-time tournament champion added: ‘I will be missing my #NoleFam in China. I hope that I can come back to China in the future and play in front of all of you again.”
Medvedev leads the field as he defends his title from four years ago. He will be challenged by Top 10 rivals Carlos Alcaraz, Holger Rune, Jannik Sinner, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev.
