Djokovic denied jab exemption: Serb media

Serbian daily newspaper Informer has reported world No. 1 Novak Djokovic will not play at next month’s Australian Open after being denied a medical exemption to cover his unvaccinated status.

Djokovic has repeatedly refused to confirm whether or not he has been vaccinated or whether he would play in Melbourne.

The Serb had already pulled out of the Serbian team for the ATP Cup in Sydney which begins next week.

“Team Serbia will now be led by world No. 33 Dusan Lajovic,” organisers of the team event said in a statement.

Australian Open organisers have stated all participants must be vaccinated or have a medical exemption granted by an independent panel of experts.

“If Novak shows up at the Australian Open, he’ll either be vaccinated or he’ll have a medical exemption,” Tennis Australia Craig Tiley has said.

“It’s his choice on his medical condition, it’s his choice to keep (it) personal and private like all of us would do with any condition we may or may not have.”
