Andy Murray bowed out of the Miami Masters in the third round, carrying an ankle injury through what was likely his last match at the event.
The 36-year old lost 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (5) to Czech newcomer Tomas Machac in what sounded like the final appearance for the former No. 1 at the hardcourt event.
The tournament which he has won twice is special for the Scot, who has strongly suggested already that this season could be his last;
“I wasn’t thinking ..that’s the last match that I am going to play here which is sad because I love it here.
“I’ve spent so much of my tennis career here and I would have liked it to have gone on a little bit longer.”
After winning his second round match in Miami, Murray wrote on the TV camera “Life in the old dog yet” – but for how much longer?
The double Wimbledon winner added: “This tournament for me is an important one so it was a bit more emotional leaving the court today than it might be at some of the other events.
“I’m looking forward to the end now, I’ll give my best the next few months and get to be at home with my family.”
“Miami has been my tennis home really. I’ve done so much of my work and training and preparation here. I love the city.”
