Spain’s Davis Cup captain is peering into the future of good mate Rafael Nadal, convinced that the Spanish icon will focus his 2024 comeback on playing the Paris Olympics.
David Ferrer, longtime intimate of 22-time Grand Slam champion Nadal, told Marca of his prediction about the path of Nadal’s season.
His call: “Do a good (spring) clay tour, feel competitive and be at the Paris event.”
Ferrer will be in the thick of TV coverage of Sunday’s Las Vegas exhibition between Nadal and young Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, with the pair grabbing a quick pay cheque before heading to the Indian Wells Masters in California.
The playing Davis captain realises he will likely have to make do without Nadal for September’s Davis date.
“We have to wait a little to see how Rafa goes on the Indian Wells tour and then on the Tour, which will be very important to see how he feels.
“As of today, Rafa’s priority, Before the Davis Cup, it’s the Olympic Games.”
