Coco Gauff collected her second WTA title this season on Sunday, winning Washington with a 6-2, 6-3 defeat of Maria Sakkari.

The American teenaged champion added the trophy in the US capital to her 2023 honours from Auckland in the first week of the year.

Gauff claimed the fourth trophy of her career while becoming the third American to win the event after Jessica Pegula (2019) and Sloane Stephens (2015).

The 19-year-old is the first teenager to win four or more titles since Caroline Wozniacki.

Gauff’s new coaching arrangement with Brad Gilbert paid quick dividends with the title performance.

“It’s our first tournament as a full team,” she said. “I’m glad that we were able to make this result.

“I know those who were with me at Wimbledon (first-round defeat) ..it was really tough a couple of weeks ago.

“We were all feeling it. I’m glad I was able to bounce back.”

Gauff trailed Greek Sakkari 4-1 in their career series prior to playing the final.

“It was an incredible week,” the runner-up said. “I’m not going to lie, it’s pretty disappointing.

“But at the same time, a month ago I didn’t think I would be here.”
