Chinese teenager creates AO history

Teenager Shang Juncheng became the first male Chinese player to win an Australian Open main draw singles match on Monday, battle g to beat Germany’s Oscar Otte 6-2, 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 7-5 in a three hour marathon.

The 17-year-old, a qualifier for the event, faces a tough second-round match against either American Frances Tiafoe or another German, Daniel Altmaier.

Shang is the youngest player in the men’s draw, and one of three male Chinese players competing at the event. Zhang Zhizhen and Wu Yibing are their other two.
