Old pro Boris Becker has high hopes for German compatriot Alexander Zverev on the ATP next season.
But the six-time Grand Slam winner has advised his compatriot to accelerate the winning pace if he wants to decrease his tournament workload.
Zverev, ranked seventh with a 2020 US Open final in his resume, is trending upwards, Becker told a Eurosport podcast.
“The stars are aligned extremely well,” three-time Wimbledon winner Becker told a Eurosport podcast.
“He is now ranked No. 7 – I can see him in the top five in June,” the 56-year-old said.
“I can only warmly recommend that he wins more matches faster. Then the rest of the tournament will be much easier.”
Becker said that Zverev can sometimes make life hard on himself.
“He often wins in a third or fifth set. The only problem is: if you can win in two, why do it in three?
“That means you’re tired the next day and you’ve been on court one or two hours longer than your next opponent.”
