Bad luck Badosa hits pause button over back injury

The back problem which forced Paula Badosa to miss the second half of 2023 has flared again, with the Spaniard forced to take time away from the WTA on the cusp of the spring clay campaign.

Badosa, an Australian Open semi-finalist two months ago, had to retire last week at the Miami Masters after winning her first two rounds.

The world No. 11 who once stood second in the rankings said her timeline for a return to action remains uncertain; the problem reportedly led her to considering quitting the sport last season.

The partner of Stefanos Tsitsipas detailed her health situation in an Instagram post.

“It’s very sad and tough to deal with the pain and especially stopping and coming back every single time,” she said..

“Now it’s time to go through the recovery process again. Hopefully I will be back soon.”

The next goal has to be the May 25 start of play at Roland Garros, where the 27-year-old reached the quarters four years ago.
