Alex de Minaur kicked off his Eastbourne ATP title defence on Monday as the Australian reached the second round 6-3, 6-3 over Cristian Garin.

The 24th-ranked winner, seeded sixth, who also won Antalya last season, went through at Devonshire Park in 83 minutes to win his 14th career match on grass.

There was more Aussie success on the South coast lawns, with qualifier John Millman knocking out Sebastian Korda 6-3, 7-6(5).

That win meat revenge after Millman lost to the American last month at Roland Garros.

“It is really nice to be here. It is good to get some form going,” Millman said.

“I’m happy to get some good wins in qualifying and then to beat a player like Sebastian is a nice feeling.”

He now plays Alexander Bublik, who put out Frances Tiafoe 5-7, 7-6(4), 6-0.

Servebot giant Reilly Opelka – by far the most adamant voice against the no-point status of Wimbledon, lost to  French-born American Maxime Cressy 6-3, 6-1.
