ATP calls players to zoom meeting

ATP players have been invited to a special ATP zoom conference on June 10 to discuss the future of the tour for 2020, Spain’s Marca newspaper has reported.

The ATP has yet to confirm the meeting, but Marca has revealed it was hoped to keep the meeting secret.

The main issue, according to the newspaper, is the North American tour and what events will take place, or not.

The Rogers Cup in Canada has already cancelled their women’s event, but they are still hoping to stage the men’s equivalent.

There are serious concerns over the future of Cincinnati, a Masters 1000 event, and the Citi Open in Washington.

The New York Times has reported that the United States Tennis Association is considering moving the Cincinnati and Washington events to New York to minimise any health risks.

Other topics believed to be on the agenda include playing behind closed doors and travel requirements for players and how players can avoid quarantine restrictions in order to compete.

Coaches haven been invited to a separate meeting on June 18.

Last month the Citi Open tournament director Mark Ein said the chance of having 7,500 people a night at the beginning of August at their event was ” extraordinarily low.”

“We haven’t ruled anything out at this point, but the chance of being able to pack a stadium, if you’re being realistic, is extremely low,” he said.
