Mirra Andreeva went into racquet-smash mode as the Indian Wells Masters defending champion went down 4-6, 6-7 (5), 6-3 on monday against unseeded Katerina Siniakova in a third-round shock.
The 18-year-old destroyed her weapon in frustration as her title defence went down in flames, drawing a code violation from the chair after the Tennis Garden outburst following match point for her outsider opponent.
“I’m not really proud of how I managed it. I’m not really proud of how I handled it in the end,” Andreeva said.
“Those are the things that I really need to work on soon. I don’t know. Not in the future but whenever I get the chance.”
The eighth-ranked teenager added: “:It was not the best day for me in terms of how I played, but also a lot of credit to her. She played good. She showed some good tennis.
“I can say there were a lot of emotions that I was going through after thel oss.
“But of course I’m not really proud of how I managed it. I’m not really proud of how I handled it in the end.
