Second seed Carlos Alcaraz took a step closer to a trophy repeat at the Indian Wells Masters on Tuesday, dispatching Fabian Marozsan with a 6-3, 6-3 in a revenge win to reach the quarter-finals.
Spain’s defending champion was looking for payback after losing to the Hungarian ranked 58th last May on clay in Rome.
“I was nervous before the match, I’m not going to lie,” the winner confessed.
“I was playing someone who beat me when I had no chances in the Rome match.”
But he walked off a winner completely pleased with his performance.
“Let’s say (it was) almost perfect. I can play better. But I’m really happy with the way I approached the match, the way that I played.
The seed won 12 of the first 13 points of the second set on his way to the last eight of the event, advancing with 22 winners in 75 minutes.
Alcaraz has now won his 50th Masters victory and his ninth in a row at Indian Wells.
