Carlos Alcaraz reached the first indoor final of his career on Saturday as he used a second chance to defeat Hubert Hurkacz 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-3 to advance a the ATP Rotterdam tournament.

The former world No. 1 seeded third will compete for his 17th career trophy against Alex de Minaur after the Australian defeated Italian spoiler Mattia Bellucci 6-1, 6-2 despite suspicions that his fitness might not be at 100 per cent.

Alcaraz missed a chance to close out a straight-sets win over Poland’s Hurkacz, double-faulting in the second-set tiebreaker at 5-4.

Hurkacz took it into a deciding third but lost serve early in the set and was unable to close the gap with the Spaniard.

In the opening set Alcaraz trailed 1-4, 0-40 but swept the last five games to get back into the match.

“I was in a bit of trouble,” he said. But I fought for every ball until the end.

Alcaraz won his fourth match without a loss against Hurkacz, with the pair combining for more than 70 winners over nearly two and a half hours.
