Ahn there’s more: Serena eyes up first round Roland Garros opponent

Serena Williams will begin her quest for a record-equalling 24th slam against Kristie Ahn in Paris next week.

Williams, who has won the French Open three times, most recently in 2015, could meet No.3 seed Elina Svitolina in the quarters.

The tournament’s No.1 seed Simona Halep, starts her campaign against Sara Sorribes Tormo but has an interesting second round match-up with Jil Teichman and a potential rematch with Amanda Anisimova down the draw.

Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin meets Liudmila Samsonova of Russia, Svitolina is up against Varvara Gracheva, and the 10th-seeded Victoria Azarenka faces Danka Kovinic.

2017 champion Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia takes on American Madison Brengle and Venus Williams opens against Slovakian Anna Karolina Schmiedlova.

2018 runner-up Sloane Stephens takes on Vitalia Diatchenko of Russia.

Several players pulled out of the tournament on Thursday, including 10th-ranked Bencic.

Other exciting first-round matches include Konta v Gauff and Vondrousova v Swiatek.
