Rafael Nadal would love to eventually end his standout career atop the Grand Slam trophy count.

The 22-time champion at the majors ranked second on the ATP told Spain’s Marca of his dream as he prepares to start his 2023 season at the United Cup in Australia.

The 36-year-old remains in a duel with Novak Djokovic for all-time honours following the September retirement of Roger Federer.

“I understand that there is debate,” he said. “Federer and Djokovic and I have achieved much more than we dreamed of.

“Of course I would like to be the one who ends up with the greatest (number of Grand Slam titles).

“I’m a competitor, without a doubt, but it has never been an obsession nor will it be. It may be an illusion, but not an obsession at all.” added the player who leads Djokovic by one Grand Slam trophy.
