Serena Williams emerged from the mists on Tuesday, with an Instagram post seeming to indicate the 40-year-old hopes to take a crack at Wimbledon.

Williams, who has gone to ground and not been sighted on court since losing in the first round at the All England Club to Aliaksandra Sasnovic a year ago, posted a cryptic message:

“SW and SW19. It’s a date. 2022 See you there. Let’s Go.”

Speculation then kicked off that she was announcing some kind of comeback.

Were she to actually play, Williams would need a wild card, with the entry deadline long gone.
