In an event of “firsts” the 2020 US Open will feature names on the backs of ball persons for the first time.
However the names won’t be their own, but random names of frontline healthcare workers who have been battling against COVID-19 in New York City.
Mount Sinai, the official medical services provider of the US Open, randomly chose the names of 150 employees out of 600-plus submissions to honour their essential workers from the Tri-State Area in recognition of their outstanding efforts during the pandemic.
The last names of those healthcare personnel will be worn on the backs of the ballpersons shirts throughout the 2020 US Open.
